Quartz Scepter - Little Gem Mine, Jefferson County, Montana, USA
Initially discovered in 1886 by local gold prospectors, the Little Gem Mine became Montana's longest standing amethyst locality. Producing world class scepters and jacare (portuguese word for alligator skin) formations, the mine is a pegmatite body hosted in 76 million year old granite.
This scepter features a pale smoky stem, with pale amethyst overgrowth both capping and draping the primary crystal. When lit with 254nm wavelength light, hyalite opal is shown on various parts of the crystal. Great quality and symmetry.
