Quartz + Microcline - "Lone Rider" - Little Gem Mine, Jefferson County, Montana, USA
Initially discovered in 1886 by local gold prospectors, the Little Gem Mine became Montana's longest standing amethyst locality. Producing world class scepters and jacare (portuguese word for alligator skin) formations, the mine is a pegmatite body hosted in 76 million year old granite.
"Lone Rider" represents a rather uncommon find of amethyst nucleated in free form over a small microcline crystal. Typically, the amethyst would break free from the matrix during cooling phases.
(3.5 x 2.5 x 1.5 in - 8.9 x 6.4 x 3.8 cm - 7.8oz - 223g)
