Quartz + Hematite - Kattumunnur Mines, Karur District, Tamil Nadu, India
Situated 26Km from the town of Karur in Tamil Nadu State of southern India is the Kattumunnur Mines. This basalt quarry is comprised of several dozen privately owned operations mining primarily for raw construction materials. This particular specimen comes from a small find of large milky quartz with late hematite inclusions, and a final phase of amethystine quartz.
This specimen displays one large main crystal with several smaller attached, with epitaxial nucleation prior to the amethyst generation.
