Initially discovered in 1886 by local gold prospectors, the Little Gem Mine became Montana's longest standing amethyst locality. Producing world class scepters and jacare (Portuguese word for alligator skin) formations, the mine is a pegmatite body hosted in 76 million year old granite.
"Heart of The Mountain" is a fine cluster of amethyst scepters on an etched microcline matrix, accentuated by green sericite mica staining. This specimen was porfessionally formatted for display.
