Hailing from the closed Burlington Mine in the Summit Mining District of Butte Montana, this Rhodochrosite is a rich coverage of crystals. Averaging 1.5mm, the bubblegum pink colored crystal coat a matrix of quartz with sulfide and oxide gangue minerals. XRF analysis showed the galena to be up to 70% silver bearing.
The Burlington Mine was one of Butte’s early manganese and oxide producers, with a large ore stockpile being place just west of present-day city limits. The last year of production on record is 1958, with current ownership of the site being private property.
