The Nikolaevskiy Mine was opened in 1982 and very quickly became known as one of the world's premier localities for sulfide minerals. Hosted in limestone, the cavities contain superb specimens of sphalerite, galena, calcite, fluorite, pyrrhotite, and ilvaite.

This specimen is a superb cluster of large siderite rhombs intergrown over a bed of sphalerite. The surface of the main crystals is coated by a sparkly druze of calcite. Micro crystals of sphalerite are also present in some areas of the druze. The group displays wonderfully without aid.
