Quartz + Schorl + Albite + Muscovite - Boulder Batholith, Jefferson County, Montana, USA

The Boulder Batholith occupies a region roughly of 1900 square miles in southwestern Montana, and is home to at least 14 known pluton units. The pegmatites of this granitic region are young, at only 74-81 million years of age. This batholith is genetically related to several other west to east trending batholiths in Montana.

This specimen is a matrix of intergrown and brecciated albite, with light blue color in one area. Smoky quartz, muscovite, and minor amounts of schorl tourmaline are also present. Harvested by W. C. Van Laer and accompanied by one of his sales labels; it displays well naturally.
